Honda HRX217VYA Roto Stop Disengaging

New member here and of course, I have a problem.

After tons of research I decided on the HRX217 without Roto Stop. Unfortunately, my dealer was sold-out of that model, but sold me the Roto Stop model for the same price.

I picked up the mower just as the dealer was closing and hurried home to mow, before it rains tonight. Added gas, double checked the oil level, let the engine warm-up a few minutes and started mowing.

A few minutes into the job, the Roto Stop push button began popping up (disengaging).

Since the dealer is closed, I'm hoping someone will chime in with a photo and/or sketch of what needs to be bend and/or adjusted to fix this problem.

I did a "Search" and found a description of what to do, but the accompanying photos are no longer accessible.

Any help in getting me going before the rain and nightfall would be appreciated.

Thanks

Were the missing photos on here or another forum? If here I was going to see if I had any luck in retrieving them. Photobucket really made a mess of things on all forums when they decided to start charging an arm and a leg for what they had been doing for free for years. :tango_face_sad:

Mark:

I appreciate you getting the photos up and displaying again. It was impossible to follow the instructions without the photos/diagrams, since "colors" were noted.

I also reached out to Robert@Honda via PM and he forwarded the Honda Service Bulletin to me which shows even more information. It was marked "confidential", so I can't post the information here. If Robert is able to post it on the forum, it would be worth of a "STICKY".

I've already made the modification to my mower, but with over 2" of rain last night, I won't be able to run it through it's paces until later today.

Thanks to you both!

It finally dried-up enough that I could mow today and the Roto Stop worked perfectly after the very minor modification to the engagement bar.

I have to say that the cut of this mower is heads & shoulders above any other mower I've owned in the past 44 years. It also did an excellent job of catching the clippings.

The only nits that I have to pick are:

The design of the mower deck rear discharge and the bag causes clippings to build-up above the bag mount area and where the bottom of the bag meets the deck. It's impossible to remove the bag without leaving a couple of handfuls of clipping on the rubber rock guard.

The Select Drive system isn't consistent. I set the knob just a little above "minimum" and the mower speed would vary by 1/2 to 1 mph at times. I found myself shuffling along on one pass across the lawn, then having to speed walk on the next.
