I need to replace the starter coil on my John Deere STX38 and I can't seem to figure out how to take the hood off. I'm 77 years old and some what mechanical inclined, but this has got me stumped. I even called a local dealer and was told to raise the hood just a little and then pull forward, but that didn't work. I also read online to remove both springs and leave them off, because they're not really needed. I haven't done that yet, but I will tomorrow. Any suggestions or videos would be greatly appreciated. I would think that if the springs are left off the hood may fall loose when opening all the way to service the engine.
