Replacing the motor on a john deere lx176 with a a 18.5 hp IC briggs and stratton. How do I wire the Briggs and stratton to the john deere lx176?
The Briggs has 2 wires coming into one connector. One wire is black and the other is red.

If you have any other suggestion on swapping the motors out please let me know.

If any other information is need please just let me know.

Your best bet would be to try and pull up a service / repair manual specific to each engine and compare the wiring diagrams. One mis-connection and you can toast something in the blink of an eye. ;)

You'll probably find a wiring schematic for the Kohler here:

Kohler Engines: Owners & Service Manuals: Manuals & Maintenance

The Briggs will likely be harder to find without purchasing a repair manual for it.

What I really need is a wiring diagram for the john deere lx176 that had a Kawasaki motor. trying to see what wires to connect to the B&S motor.
Getting a wiring diagram is as simple as going to a JD dealer and asking them is they will make a copy of it for you. Roger

Good idea, but there is not a JD dealer close too me and with gas sky high.....
All written materials JD produces is copy righted and JD has no sense of humor about people reselling their stuff without permission. Ask the people who have tried to make "T" shirts without getting JDs permission first. JD has a fine group of lawyers on staff and is not afraid to use them. You will not find free down loads JD manuals anywhere. Roger
One other comment on your swap and that is does the Briggs have a big enough charging system on it to run the electric PTO clutch that JD uses. You need to have at least a 15 amp charging system for the PTO to work correctly. Roger

Ditto from what I've read and heard. :(

There is however a tractor forum offering for download pdf's of some models. But I don't know if they have any agreements or permission from JD. Use at your own risk:
