Over the last couple of weekends I've picked up my 2012-13 Winter projects! First, a couple of Saturdays ago, I took the 83-420 to a GT plow day about 3 hours from home. While there, I was talking to a friend about an estate auction I was planning to go to the next weekend, which had a JD model 56 RER. I wanted the 56 for a project I have in mind, he told me he could do one better, "FREE"! It seems his local dealer had some RER's he was giving away to keep them out of the scrap pile. He called the guy, arranged for one to be set out for pick up. When we got there, behind the building was a very sound model 68, that I brought home. It's in good enough shape I plan to restore it for shows & as a back-up mower!
Last Saturday, I went to an auction & bought a "lightly used" Craftsman dump cart for $45! Then Sunday, the original estate auction and paid $100 for the "non-running" 56. As I was pushing it to the road to load, two of the family members told me they had it running the day before! Brought it home, aired the tires, added a little gas, started it & drove it around the drive some before parking it. The plan is to marry the 56 to the dump cart.
The 68 is now running & will be the first project, then the 56/cart. ~~ grnspot
