its a driveworks 1/4" filter and its shaped similar to an ice cream cone. which side goes toward the carb? sorry no pic

The top of the cone is usually upstream of the bottom part (Meaning that the fuel is filtered by the outside surface of the cone).

Here is a decent picture I found. The bottom of the cone will face the carb.... Whereas the top of the cone will point to the fuel tank... Hope this helps :)

You want the inside of the cone facing the carb. If you put the inside or basket of the cone towards the fuel tank all of the sediment will collect inside the cone and stop or interrupt fuel flow.

Look at the housing real c!ose, there usually is an arrow embossed on it indicating direction of flow. But not always.

When in doubt...I usually put to mouth, blow thru it, finger feeling output, one direction will have greater flow...and that's the direction I mount it...Now wondering if that was good idea..!
