Went and looked at my next possible rescue yesterday, what a shame! It was a CC ZTR that my neighbor told me about. He said it looked pretty good from what he could see without inspecting it. And best of all he only wanted @$250 for it! I was on my way!

 Lets start from the front:

All wheel bearings shot
Tranny control you had to push all the way down just to engage, Major play and wobble in every direction, nothing left to adjust
seat torn up
deck was off on the side missing discharge shoot and who knows what
clutch had blown apart from bolts loosening up
wiring harness pieced together
80% of the safety switches bypassed and sticking out with a piece of wire stuck in them
Engine leaking oil from all the usual places dripping on the muffler (surprised it had one)
Tires all dry rotted
vent tube missing from one transaxle with a bolt stuck in the vent tube hole
engine was @+- a quart of oil low
took off the air cleaner cover and a new air cleaner that looked like a quart of oil, the one missing from the engine, was poured all over it.

It did run though...:dunno:

Owner wanted nothing less than $275

I came home with an empty trailer

I guess if everyone took care of their equipment we would never get a good deal on a fixer upper.
:soap: I'm getting down now.

Darn! Sorry to hear that, hopefully you didn't travel too far.

It's sad to think how careless somebody can be about their equipment and not have any pride whatsoever in doing any maintenance at all to it.

About an hour round trip including the inspection. At least it wasn't half a day.:dunno: Maybe next time...

If he would of givin it to me I could have made at least a dozen Tech articles though. :D

To think I gave away my old Jake rider as a trade for the Deere to the local shop. Always been in a garage and no rust except the deck was getting soft in places and the spindle bearings were totally shot. The delivery guy looked at it and asked if it run. Yep, smokes a little, never been rebult with a lot of hours on it. "Does it drive?" he asked. Yes, just won't stay in second gear. "You know you can get replacement gears for these yet." I know. "Hmm." I gave him the bucket of parts with the blade spindle bearings that I could not find anywhere other then to have them custom built by a machine shop and he drove it up on the trailer and looked it over some more and left. Always wondered if he did not drop it off at his house on the way back to the shop. :D

Heck I could have sold it for $800 if I knew what I know now as for the price some ask. ;) :ROFL

That's probably why it was selling for $275. It costs my dad that much just to his mower fixed. Now, we're finding out we have to change the hydraulics because...well...it's over a decade old and needs it. That'll be another $1800.

Mowers need care like cars do.

It's hard to believe the way people can take care of decent equipment.
