I have an old lawnmower engine that would have to be around 70 years old. Still has good compression. It is a 2 stroke with Wico SO447 coil, P2123 stator plate, and basic 2 magnet flywheel. Does anyone have any experience with converting these kinds of Wico ignition systems to electronic? I am talking about those Electronic Ignition modules that you can buy on sites like ebay. I have heard in general discussions with people that the modern EI modules will not work with a Wico system, but I cannot undertsand why. In theory they should work as the set up is much the same as for other 2 strokes of that era. Just a basic coil on a three prong bar that you position dead centre for correct timing. But I would like to hear from others who have had success doing this conversion before I fork out dollars for an ignition module. Would like to do away with points and condenser. I would appreciate any advice on this.
