I'm wondering if it's a groun wire that attaches to a bolt
manufactures stick to a wiring color code for consistency. Red 12v+ , black 12v - / ground, oranges ignition (maybe) yellow safety circuit (usually)
The length of the wire limits where it could be terminated. Th exposed wire may indicate that it was in a connector. What is the model and serial of the mower? I'll see if I can find a schematic.

here is the schematic
the wire in your pictures looks to be solid red. If you can identify the plug connector it goes into and the other wires in that plug, you should be able to find it on the schematic
Is the mower currently working? starts and runs? all safety devices work or known to work?

Do you have a volt / ohm meter? It would raise our confidence if you could verify some circuit connections. Until till then, we are kind of blind and please use caution.
From what I see, I believe it is the 12v + feed to the power (key switch) circuit. It may have been crimped in with the big main battery 12v+ connection on the solenoid. I would crimp a ring connector to the loose red wire and remove the nut on the 12v+ battery connection on the solenoid, then secure it and the cable on that solenoid post. You'll have to determine which cable on the solenoid goes to the battery.
Good luck, keep us posted.
