After being parked for two weeks my mower won't start.
Had just put new gas in. Cranks and cranks. Even backfires once or twice.

Do you smell gas when it cranks?

Check the crankcase. Did the gas overflow the carb and fill the crank? May be flooded out. I would start by taking the spark plug out, turning the engine over to clear the cylinder (after making sure the crankcase only contains oil), the try again with the spark plug re-installed.

I would check the oil and make sure it isn't filled with gas as the others have suggested. Also check the plugs to see if they are wet or dry and see if you are getting too much or too little fuel.
