Toro 5400 (74848) Hydros whistling?

Just bought this used with only 730 hours on it and it seems to be making a whistling sound that as near as I can tell comes from the hydros vicinity. Should I be able to hear this over the engine? I have a Titan here as well and there's no noticeable sound from that. Any comment? thanks, Gordon

Should not be able to hear any noise over the engine....With that many hours (730) and if the hydro's have never been service maintained I would say it's time to yank them and at minimum do an oil change with fresh higher viscosity oil. I did that on my Husqvarna before 100 hours and what a difference all around for the better. My SIL's Cub Cadet zero his units burned up with a heck of a lot less hours than you have and him doing the repairs was still $850. Any oil leakage from the individual units? If yes, then I would say the oil level is on the low side. Do it now before any internals get heat damaged which with be $$$$. Best of luck to you............

Thanks, I noticed there was plenty of oil in the reservoir for them. Its an ex major hire company mower so you'd have to assume its been maintained properly. Getting them out looks a nightmare.
