This JD L133 taken in trade for some fabrication and paint work, finally done in from neglect. It was worn out completely.

Deck spindles seized, original 14 HP Kohler blown (and replaced with a used 13.5), three of the four wheels rotted through, and transmission wouldn't shift in either forward or reverse. All of the safety switches were bypassed and evidence of a small electrical fire from the ignition switch to the alternator. We discovered that the original engine, some ten years old, never had an oil change. PO just added some when he remembered to check.

As my brother and I pushed it into my shop, the steering 'popped' and fell to the floor.

The ONLY redeemable item was the used Kohler. We bought a nearly new Husqvarna with 30 hours and blown Kohler, Courage 20 HP engine. It still runs fine to this day...

(last picture is looking at the piston through the crank journal)

Oh, I don't know. A little heat and a dead-blow hammer should bring that piston back to a usable condition.

Those older Kohler engines were sure a workhorse, weren't they? Very dependable and used in a LOT of equipment.

Man, that's just sad to see. Very neglectful.

Never an oil change in 10 years? Well, maybe that's a testimate to the manufacture's quality then for holding up that long.
