New to this forum, so be kind please. I have a tecumseh motor on my weedeater push mower and it has occasionally knocked some and would not start the other day. It pops and kicksback when you try to pull start it. I found that the flywheel keyway was broken and replaced it with the correct manufacturer part and thought that would cure the problem. But it still does the same thing. Any ideas? Valves may be bad? or what?

Is there a blade on the mower and is it tight to the crankshaft? The blade is needed as part of the flywheel weight for it to run right. Roger

blade

Yes. same blade as always and tight. Motor backfires and Kickback when trying to start. From what I have read it probably has something to do with the valves. Will probably break down sometime this winter and look at. Have transferred a 4 HP B&S engine to a newer mower frame and it works better than than the other one. Thanks.
