Swapping

Does anyone know where I can find a resource to find out whether I can swap parts/ engines/ decks between 3 different Craftsman push mowers? I have a 5.0 hp on a deck with the big back wheels but the engine isn't running right and I've tried several different things to fix it. I'd like to move a 6.0 hp from another mower (deck is without big back wheels) if possible. Does anyone have suggestions on where I might find this information or let me know what to look for in order to see if the swap will work. My guess is that as long as the engines bolt up in the same pattern, it should be pretty easy. Thanks in advance.

I would think the biggest concern would be the length of the shaft from the bottom of the engine to the point where the blade attaches. Obviously one quite a lot longer or shorter would cause problems. A lot of engines share common bolt patterns, and many decks I've seen have holes that will mate up to different engines.

I'm sure someone with more knowledge on the matter will come along soon.

If I couldn't find the specs on the net, I would contact the manufacture(s) as they will be able to provide those specs.
