Spring is just around the corner!

Went by True Value the other day, and Sears today. Both had their new lawn mowers and riders out on display. Used to be the first sighting of a robin was a sure sign of spring around here, but they've been sticking around all winter, so now gotta' go by when Sears rolls out their new machines.

How about everybody else? What's a sure sign for you?

My sure signs of Spring is when the ground drys up and the grass screams for it's first mowing.

I actually heard the screams this morning :D ! My wife must have too...as she asked me if I had fueled up the rider ;)
I was servicing my machines today, did the lube, oil, filters on my John Deere equipment, the L-120, 2305 and the JD self propelled. The grass is getting long and I am going to wait a couple weeks to mow.

A week ago I was pushing snow and now the grass is growing like crazy.

It is kind of strange for me as I bought my L-120 on March 5, 2003, my JD 2305 was delivered on March 5, 2009.

So I guess for me is to buy my new equipment in the spring.:D

Allergies start kicking it up a notch. Even had my ears half plugged up last week for a couple of days. Bad time of year for anyone with arthritis as well with all the pressure and temperature fluctuations. For that matter likewise not a good time to have plugged up ears with the barometer bouncing around either. After the better part of another inch of rain we had about an inch of snow on the ground again this morning. We're stuck in that pattern at the moment. One or two good days then storms and finishing off with light freezing rain and snow. Had a tornado touch down about 10 miles away with the second to the last round last week.

This time of year it does not do anything for too long here. That's both good and bad. ;) It'll be the better of two months yet before we have anything tall enough to mow. We can still get some snow into April.
I've always kind of considered spring to have begun when the grass all of sudden starts growing like crazy, like Mark mentioned. I like when this happens because I love mowing the lawn and using my machines, haha!:) The lawn is still dormant here, and the weather is quite cooolllld. Oh, and how about a little less rain??

It is however starting to really stay noticably lighter out later ofcourse which is awesome. Turning the clocks back is also a tell-tale sign for me that spring is just around the corner as well.

Can't wait until it finally warms up and I can start shooting hoops again in the late warm evenings...:)
For me, a cause for celebration is when the stores start putting up their outdoor greenhouses/plant displays. I am kind of surprised I haven't seen any yet but expect to within a week or so. Just makes me feel good.

Went past the Wal Mart garden center yesterday. Not setting up the greenhouse yet but they did have a few trees set out. Not far away...
Well I thought spring was on the way for our area, but last night we got another dusting of the white stuff called snow.:D

Won't be long though, I haven't noticed any growth in the grass, but I did see a FAT Robin this morning so that serves as assurance that spring is around the corner!

Yes! The longer days...love it. And getting out without having to dress like Nanook!
Forgot to mention, there is nothing like waking up the sound of birds singing in the near by trees from your bedroom window.

Also, for the first time this year, I heard a Honda commercial fire up, clutch engage and mow some grass. That is a sound you hear often during the grass cutting season!
we got 17" of heavy snow here on Monday - state of emergency, etc. etc.

tossed a rod on my JD 317 trying to plow out my neighbors.

Evidently spring has been canceled here in Central NY.
Snowing here tonight. They say we could get up to 4" through tomorrow. Mostly melting so far.
For me I am getting ready to store the snow equipment and bring out the summer equipment.
Yes spring is here. : )
We never got the snow outside of some flurries and a very light dusting. Could be up to near 70°F by Friday. Just wish we had more sun. Been pretty dreary even when it was not raining around here for several weeks.
Our temperatures have been hovering around in the 40s and up into the 50s the last few days. I started back to work part time at a motorcycle repair shop last Monday. Folks are starting to get their bikes out and riding again here so there'll be lots of new tires and oil changes coming in.
It got up to 86°F today! Old record was 81°F in 1945. I did annual maintenance on all the mowers and leveled the grass out for the first time.

Now I have something else to fix or replace. My 1991 Sears oiless air compressor decided to chew up and spit out the connecting rod bearing. Can't complain though with all the hours it has on it. Only thing I've done to it was replace a broken cooling fan back in 1997. ;)
All we have had this spring is rain, rain, then some more rain. I really need to mow the yard and got the front and side done last weekend but the backyard is a mess and it is now raining again tonight. The talking heads keep saying more rain. Oh well I can still sit tight and watch the grass grow even longer then the 7" it is already......
A warm front just moved in today bringing temperatures over 80 degrees. It's quite an abrupt change as we have had freezing temperatures just a week or two ago. This evening a thunderstorm moved in, but I'm hoping it will dry off enough tommorrow so that I can mow the rest of the lawn.
