We have a Toro, 6.5hp, self propel mower. Is it possible to disengage the power drive from the front wheels so it is "free-wheeling"? We bought it used and the self-propel doesn't work and we do not intend to fix the problem. It rolls, but the wheels still feel a bit of tension. We really do not need the self-propel feature. Thank you!

Welcome to the forum akafitz! :)

I've never done it but you might be able to open the gear box and remove the gear connected to the drive pulley or one of the other gears to better isolate the wheels. Just make sure you do not remove something holding the axles in place.

On most Toro models the drive wheels have a gear on the wheels If you swap them for non drive wheels it will do what you are wanting.

If it is the model I am thinking of;
Remove the front wheels, at the end of the axle there is a small gear that powers the wheels, they are held on with a snap ring, remove the snap ring, remove the driving gear, put your wheels back on and you are good to go. Have a good one. Geo
