I have a Honda HRX217HYA mower that I absolutely love. I bought it in July 2012. It is the K3 version of the mower. I am going to give you a detailed review of this mower so when I recommend this mower in the future I can just put a link to this thread.
Let's start out with the engine on this mower. It has the GCV190 engine (190cc's). This engine is super powerful, and is the only mower by Honda with this engine! I own an HRR mower with the 160cc engine and it is no match for the more powerful engine. This mower can power through tall grass, while the HRR would bog down and die. This mower is surprisingly quite, too, which is a relief in residential neighborhoods. It also is very fuel-efficient.
Now...the mower deck. It is made from NeXite, a composite material used in car bumpers. It is super durable, and grass tends not to stick to it. And if it does, it won't make the mower bog down just because there is grass under the deck.
This mower has the VersaMow System with an adjustable Clip Director. This takes the place of a mulch plug. You can move the lever from bagging to mulching or anywhere in between, whatever fits the grass condition. With this mower you can mulch, bag, rear-discharge, or shred leaves. I think the Clip Director is a great feature to the mower. Sometimes after you finish mowing you look and there is some grass behind the Clip Director even if it is in the full mulch position, but you just brush it out...it takes like two seconds.
Now some of the other features of this mower. The controls of this mower are great. It has the Roto-Stop blade-break clutch, which really comes in handy, especially if you bag.

Nice review! It sounds like you're very pleased with the machine and that is has been performing as intended. Thanks for the contribution!

Nice review with some good information.
In doing research before buying I guess i didn't quite understand the significance of the Versamow system but it really does make a huge difference in the usability of this mower. Simple but ingenious.

I cut about a 1/4 acre of higher than normal grass yesterday in the 80% mulch mode and did not leave a clump anywhere and less than 1/3 of a bag full of grass when I was done.

And as said above, the engine seems to have more than enough power for anything. The machine also feels very solid.
I also love the big and sturdy wheels.
It gives a great cut.
I have a K4 version.

A couple of things I am not crazy about, (not anything big)

1) I wish the bag was dark grey or black, The white is already stained with grass after 2 weeks of ownership. So I have a really expensive, brand new mower that looks like it been used for a couple seasons already when seeing the bag. I know, waa, waa :ROFL
2) I wish Honda would have included some sort of cushioned handle.

3) At this price range, I think the engine should have a spin on oil filter.

4) on mine, anything less than full throttle (like for warm up and cool down) gets the mower shaking and or vibrating where it sounds lie an engine knock. I don't think it is, I am pretty sure its just the deck but it sounds awful.

All in all, its a great mower. Compared to the Commercial Snapper I was thinking about it was quite a bit cheaper and it was also a great value compared to the cheaper but inferior Toro super recycler with Honda power.
I hope to have this one around for a very long time.

I use my blower to clean off the bag...it helps a little.

There are grips you can put on, just make sure you are still able to push the bar in far enough to engage the blades fully. See it here:
