plastic hoods

was wondering if PVC glue would work in repairing a crack?..my hood has a clean break on the very top and my thought was to maybe use pvc glue ( the kind you would use to glue plastic pipe together) but i was going to use another piece of plastic under the top of the hood as a backup/support piece like you would patch a tire..was wondering if this would work or would it melt or damage the hood?
