Usually, a garden tractor is heavier built with a PTO and the ability to add implements for gardening like a plow, tiller, etc. They normally have heavier, lugged tires that are less suited for lawn grooming.
Lawn tractors are more for lawn care but have some ability to add lawn care implements like grass seeders or trailers. They will have turf tires for not tearing up a groomed lawn but they limit traction.
Riding mowers are mostly for only mowing like rear engine riders of the Snapper Comet style or your lightweight front engine models.
