I have a mid 70's sears suburban 16 with the occasional standard ailments.
It had only 42 hours on it when i inherited it with most attachments.
I'm ready to Mod the mowing deck to newer mandrils because i cannot find a servicable center. Bearings are easy , seals too but the shaft and cups are NG.

Cool machine, I really like the vintage Sears Suburban GT tractors. That is really neat that you're going to modernize the deck with new parts. Great idea!

Keep us updated and if you feel up to it, we love pictures too! :)

:welcome: to MLMF. I have a 1974 SS/16 with a 42" deck myself. I did have to do quite a bit of patching on the deck, and rebuilt the center mandril with new bearings, but I've often wondered about what to do when those mandrils eventually give up. Here is the before and after of mine a few years back. It's not that clean now. I'll be curious to see what sort of advise you get.
