Have a kohler 17.5 ohv run rough and muffler get glowing red after a few minutes any suggestion on what it might be

Hi there,

The first place that I would check would be the muffler itself. I would pull it off and see if I could tell if the muffler was clogged or has some sort of obstruction inside blocking the exhaust flow.

first thing i would do is pull the plugs (i belive it's a twin) and seeif the porcelain insulating tip has a rusty looking glaze. it sounds as if it is running with a lean mixture.

It a single and the muffler is brand new thought maybe it might be a valve problem i dont know pull off mower and replaced motor just wondering if i should mess with the motor. has 364 hrs on it

Are you sure the muffler is new and not refurbished/rebuilt? If so then it definitely could be a valve problem.
