I think you're on the right track about the Kohler vs. Briggs engine option. There's probably little or no difference as far as longevity between the two, but the Briggs does have the extra two horsepower so that's probably what I would go with even though it costs a little more. I really don't know much about the two options of transmissions so I'll let someone else chime in on that one.
