I recently bought what looks like a series 5 rer the previous owner had it running until he charged the battery with jumper cables to his running buick.

This resulted in him frying the coil.

Here is my problem....

The engine is a Wisconsin Robin WI-450V

Evidently coils for these are rare to non existant.

Does anyone know of a source for one or a conversion/usable alternative coil?

I would hate to break up an all original mower just because of a dead coil.

I Will post pics of it as well as the full ID numbers as soon as I am home during daylight hours.

I am not the authority on rer's but I do have over a dozen of them and cannot recall seeing a Wisconsin robin on any of them, just Briggs and even a Tecumseh. It is possible that the engine was replaced along the way.

This isn't one of those newer looking alike RERs is it?

Can you take some pics of the unit and the decal plate under the seat and I can help you ID it.

Definitely not a new look alike.
The sticker under the seat was something like 331115rs.
The wis/robin (teledyne) was from what I can tell a rare motor on them from the factory.
As soon as I can get some daylight hours at home I'll throw up some photos.
Working 2 jobs has me out at dawn and in after dark
