mowers slows and then stops...

Hi again folks. I had replaced the belts on my Sears 30" mid engine mower. It seemed ok but now it is slowing to a stop. :(

I'm not sure how to tell if it's the transmission or the variator. I have been reading a few things around the net trying to figure out if the variator could be causing the stoppage. I can drive for about 15-20 minutes and then no-go. I have not ever lubed it and swear I smell rubber when it stops.

Can anyone elaborate or clue me in to what is happening?

Thanks again, rbee.

It sounds like maybe one of the belts is too tight? That could be why you're smelling the burnt rubber and why it would come to a stop.

Or the flip side to that being they are a little too loose and after they warmup up they expand length wise just enough to loose grip.

Either way a tension adjustment might just be the key to it. If in doubt you could try adjusting it a small amount both ways and see if it makes any difference.
