So my Yardman is giving me fits this year. It's always had a little trouble starting but usually after a few cranks would fire right up. I blew a head gasket a few weeks ago and after replacing that thought I'd be good to go. Ran great, so I reattached the deck. Won't start. Unhooked the deck, started right up and ran great. So I discovered that I was missing one of the deck brakes and the other was worn down, so I replaced them. Still a no go. Battery is good and it runs great without the deck, what am I missing here? Nothing seems to be binding but I think it's trying to start the deck at the same time as the mower and it's just too much to crank. :help:

Sounds like the belt is not routed right or some issue with deck mounting if it tries to spin deck and engine when cranking! Are you possibly having the brakes too high to engage the spindle plates?
