Personally, I hate the newer mower decks. Older mowers would throw out the grass even if it was a little wet. New ones need the grass to be perfectly dry.
I have an older Ford New Holland LS 55 with a 52 inch deck and it doesn't matter how wet it is it throws out the clippings and doesn't build up on the bottom of the deck. Also have a John Deere 140 and it does well too. Any comments??

Sounds like you've got a couple of good decks there. I've got an old Sears Suburban, and the grass will stick to the side furthest from the chute if the grass is wet and I had troubles with it with the original guard on the chute, but dry and without the whole guard, it throws like nobody's business

wh55,

Mulching decks work great as long as you are not doing very heavy mowing with it, such as 6" tall grass. If the grass is high or wet, it will be quick to clog the bottom of the deck with clippings.
