Looks like you might need a bush hog behind that Kingwood from time to time.
I am thinking about building a self powered finish mower that mounts to the 3pt. This picture was taken at the end of the driveway at the edge of the woods.

Like a DR? Or is it going to be hydralic? I think I would just buy a swisher and make some brackets. Tat would be easier for me but my welding skills are terrible. In shop class when I was in school I could out weld anybody in mig. Stick, It looked like a bunch of globs of sand. I practiced for I know at least a month and I n ever got the swing of things. Mig is alot easier for some reason. Or just use a drawbar and mount it on the mower. Put a top link and just connect it directly to the tractor. Hope you figure it out. Good Luck.

I am thinking self powered and mounted to the 3pt so I can pick it up if I need to. I think I am going to use the deck off of the 990.

Yes and no. I am going to get a engine and take the drive shaft from the mower deck to the engine.

If I had the money I would buy a swisher but I am broke. I don't really need to build it because the JD does every thing I need, but I figured I should build something for this tractor.

Hey, you can never have too many toys. Well "tools". And I know all about the broke deal. It isn't fun. been broke all my life. Maybe you can build a plow or disk. Fun project and something to be useful. Or just build a bush hog and use it for the harder places where rocks, brush etc are so you don't mess your JD up. Save some money in the long run. Swishers here usually run $800 for a 38in. Just about as much as riding mower from walmart that will last 3 years and will bend and blow a seal or blow up.

You might have a good idea there with the old push mower. That would be easier than the 42'' mower.

Thank you. I kind of patted myself on the back. Because I never though about that my self. I could make a sleeve hitch bracket on mine and use it to cut real high grass and things like that. Maybe even your ditch. Or a field. Now the 42'' would be nice to have though. But you'd have to find a junk riding mower and get at least a 12hp engine for it. But it would be worth 100% of your time.

I got a friend with a "lawn mower graveyard". Ok its just his house surrounded by hundreds of mowers. If I get the chance to get over there someday I will look around and see what I can find.

Yep. That would be good. Find quite a few parts for a "bush hog". make a pretty size mower with one of the bigger decks with thicker steel, get a 6-7 hp engine and then get a 22-26in bush hog blade or a gater blade and you will have your self a fine looking bush hog. The more I talk the more i want to do this. I guess I need to stop talking.
