Hi

I have a 2004 model 10654 (I know it's not a "real" lawn boy, it uses the same deck as a toro) with a honda gcv160, and it sometimes just likes to shut down when hot. Since acquiring it, I've added a FWD gearbox from a Toro, carb plate from another honda (to give it adjustable throttle), and an MTD throttle control.

It's been running really lean lately, which obviously makes it run hotter but I can't figure out why it cuts out on me randomly.

Oh and one more question; the gearbox whines like crazy and drags pretty noticeably when pulling backwards. Is this normal or should I grease it up?

I love this mower and any assistance on fixing it up would be greatly appreciated.

Since you said it runs lean as well as cutting out, you might want to check the float to see if it's sticking and not allowing enough fuel into the carb bowl.

Hi and thanks for the suggestions

Well I used the mower yesterday and it ran fine the whole time.

This is gonna be a tough diagnosis...
