My 26 HP Kohler experienced starter grind problems at 251 hours. On examination, the flimsy starter drive had seperated. The flywheel was ruined. I purchased this mower because of the Kohler engine. Less than 1 year out of warranty, I sure regret my decision. If they used a metal encased drive which might cost them $3 more, this catostophic damage would not have occurred. How many have seen a three year old car with a starter destroyed flywheel? Come to think of it, how many have seen a Honda, Kawasaki, or Briggs?

That's too bad. Sorry to hear of the trouble you are having. Just might want to talk to a Kohler rep and see if this is a problem that is common to that engine, or if there is something specific with your machine.

Wow, that flywheel looks pretty bad. Is that a Kohler Courage or Kohler Command? I've heard the Courage series is not as well built as the Command.
