John Deere d140 starts fine but when I turn the key off the fuse blows. I replaced fuse box, stater, coils, ignition, voltage regulator, fule Solenoid, starter solenoid, checked all wires (no shorts) and still the same problem. What am I missing??
John Deere d140 wiring diagrams are hard to come by. Usually you have to pay for then off John Deere website. Reading other D140 encounters, there maybe 2 different diagrams depending on date of manufacturing. More or less dealing with different charging systems. What engine is on it - model and serial.
I will assume this just started happening, so the obvious questions are:
did you have an unusual mowing accident? hit something, run over anything?
has someone else used the mower?
Have you recently performed any maintenance or repairs?
Are you using the correct size fuse?
If you could post the wiring diagram, or post a link, that would help (for future needs also). Also, the engine model and serial / date code is stamped into the top visible side of the valve cover.I changed the head gaskets and then this started.

with the extensive tear down of the engine to do the head gasket, I would look at the wiring to see if maybe a power wire from the stator got pinched along with the kill wire on the magneto. A quick test would be to disconnect the kill wire off both magnetos and try shutting it off and see it blows a fuse.
To save yourself a few dollars in fuses get a 12v, 20amp circuit breaker to use for testing. It will "open" when over-current and then reset once the short is removed (key on?). Of course, once you disconnect the kill wires, you won't be able to shut down the engine if running. Just reconnect them and then you can shutdown by the key.
good luck, post the other info.

be careful with images. Some times they return anything similar as long as it can relate search terms. When I just searched for “wire diagram John Deere D140” , the first diagram with the title “John Deere D140” has a notation at the bottom "wiring schematics for model RX95 and SX95" . Schematron is notorious for that (on purpose?)I just googled “wire diagram John Deere D140” and images, there are several wire diagrams for that model
