John Deere 68 how do you remove steering shaft

I just picked up a John Deere Model 68 to give to my neice. Everything runs well but the bushings and bearing needs to be changed in the steering. How do I remove the steering shaft so I can replace everything?
My neice lives 4 hours away and she has an acre to mow which she push mows right now. Her husband is deployed right now so a rider would really help her. The parts are ordered but I need it done by next weekend when I go to vist. Thanks for any help you can give me

To remove the steering wheel pound the roll pin out of the bottom of the steering wheel where it goes through the shaft. You can see the pin if you look under the wheel. The basically just lift it off if wheel is not rusted on. Roger
