John Deere 180 valve problem

1547 Views 2 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  Mark / Ohio
Just purchased a JD180......Love IT!

It didn't run. Found a bad coil and replaced it, Also found intake pushrod off the rocker arm. Compressed the valve and placed it back on. Kawasakie engine fired and runs great. Third time mowing same problem with pushrod. Put it back in place and it mowed for another 10 hours then
same problem. Probably a bent valve but before getting into replacing the valve has anyone else run into this with this engine? Is it possible I have a gummed up valve guide as this tractor sat for quite a while before I purchased it. If so what can be used to clean this up?

Thanks

Tom

Valve problem

Followed some of the earlier posts. Tried "Seafoam" to free up the valve.
Followed the instructions on the can for hot soak method.

poured solution into the intake until the engine stalled. Let it soak for 5 minutes then restarted. Repeated each time I mowed and the valve seemes to have freed up. I have about 10 hours on it without any more problems.
Welcome to MLF Tom! :howdy:

Thanks for posting back to let us know how it turned out and be sure to keep us updated. Sounds like an easy fix if it continues to hold. :cool
