I have a JD X300 lawn tractor with a 42" side discharge deck. It uses a deck belt 1/2" wide. I beat it pretty hard sometimes almost using the machine like a brush cutter. I'm continually breaking and/or kicking belts off. If I can find a 5/8" belt, of the proper length (144"), does anyone think this might give me better service? I've checked the pulleys and they appear wide enough to accommodate the wider belt.
Any thoughts or help here will be appreciated. Thanks.

My concern would be since the wider belt probably will ride higher in the pulleys if it will cause an increase in problems with the belt coming off?

Mark. Thanks for the reply. I see what you're saying. The wider belt may jump off more easily, but I think it may hold up better regarding breakage. Unfortunately, about the only way to know for sure is to try it. I'll probably end up wasting 30-40 bucks, but I think I'll try it anyway. I'll let you know how it works out. Jim.
