Jacobsen Edge-R-Trim

I picked up a Jacobsen Edge-R-Trim today. Checking the serial number, 32B9-10998, it shows it's either a 1960 or 1962. Has the 321 engine with Tolitson carb.

Brought it home and put a spark tester on it. Nothing at first, but after tugging the rope a few times, there was spark. Hooked up the spark plug that had been in it, and it showed spark too.

So, I dumped the gas that was in the tank, poured in some fresh stuff. I had to replace the fuel line because the one on it just sort of disintegrated when I pulled on it a bit.

Anyway, darned if it didn't start after a few tries! I have to say, I'm impressed with these old Jacobsen engines at how willing they are to run.

Couple of question for those who might have one of these. Was there a shield on both sides of the blade? There are three holes that look to be threaded on the shield that's on the inside of the blade that make me think it might have had one at one time. Second question, does anybody have an owner's manual they'd be willing to share? Sure would appreciate having a copy.

Not at all, you're the one that got me started on these old Jakes! They're quickly becoming my favorite.

Do you know anything about the Bantam 18" reel mower?

Here's the pictures. As you can see, it needs some cleaning. It had a badly worn aftermarket blade on it. From what I have found, they had a multiple tipped star shaped blade on them. A neat thing about it is the frame is also the muffler. The exhaust dumps out the bottom.

What a neat little guy!

It's got the big gas tank too!
That is neat!! I don't think I've seen one like that before. I was first thinking it was the model with the blade on the bottom for trimming rather then an actual edger.
The blade can be rotated, and set at different angles through an arch of slightly more than 90°, so it could be used as a trimmer.
