I picked up a Jacobsen Edge-R-Trim today. Checking the serial number, 32B9-10998, it shows it's either a 1960 or 1962. Has the 321 engine with Tolitson carb.
Brought it home and put a spark tester on it. Nothing at first, but after tugging the rope a few times, there was spark. Hooked up the spark plug that had been in it, and it showed spark too.
So, I dumped the gas that was in the tank, poured in some fresh stuff. I had to replace the fuel line because the one on it just sort of disintegrated when I pulled on it a bit.
Anyway, darned if it didn't start after a few tries! I have to say, I'm impressed with these old Jacobsen engines at how willing they are to run.
Couple of question for those who might have one of these. Was there a shield on both sides of the blade? There are three holes that look to be threaded on the shield that's on the inside of the blade that make me think it might have had one at one time. Second question, does anybody have an owner's manual they'd be willing to share? Sure would appreciate having a copy.
