Forum softwear is usually an out the box , plug & play system .
Then there are what the particular host server will run.
Just like "shop in a box" most of the forum softwear had several templates that the individual users can modify to suit their needs , thus a lot will look the same with nothing more than a change of colour themes and a couple of different graphics.
If you do a "who is" search on the domain names for each of the forums, if they are owed by the same company then they are "sisters"
By & large forums are just another way for advertisers to collect data on you to on sell to interested parties.
The exception if forums hosted by a related business, so for instance Jacks Small Engines has a mower repair forum so hopefully forum users will buy their parts from Jacks online store .
This is why you use a fake email address to join forums and put rubbish in the personnel details section .
Remember there is no such thing as FREE on the web.
If you are not paying then you are the product .
I have a bit of fun usually, for here I think I put my age down at over 200 years and funny enough the email address alias gets lots of add for funeral schemes & retirement villages .
When I signed up to another one I put myself down as a 14 year old girl and that was followed by a massive amount of porn & fashion spam .
My ISP allows 10 email addresses and I can add 5 aliases to each of them
So for forums I have a single address and that address has a routine on it that sends all emails to the trash then deletes them every day .
I have a different one exclusively for shopping on line , including ebay, amazon, made in chins, made in India, allibarba etc .That has a rule to put all unopened emails in the trash & delete them after 1 month.
Each on the two banks accounts have their own dedicated email address so when I get what looks like a real email to me from my bank, addressed to me personnally but in the wrong email account I know it is fake so don't open it.
There is another for paypal etc, etc, etc

I forget how many thousands of forums Vertical Scope now owns without looking it up. They might own the other forum too. Lot of them started out private owned and then they grew big enough they started to consume more time and money then the original owners had to donate to them, then they sold out. The original owners done it for fun and a hobby but VS is for profit and ad driven just like all the other big social media companies. Mytractorforum started out private owned, this forum though was started by VS shortly after they bought mytractorforum. VS has been working to get all of their forums based on the same customised XenForo software backbone. Makes it a lot easier for the techs to do updates, add plugins for ad packs and perform repairs when they are all the same. Downside though is by doing that the different forums loose their individuality from each other like they had in the beginning when they were privately owned.

Well loose their visual identity perhaps but the actual forum character is determined by those who moderate the posts.
Some end up being overtly Christian so when you post a question you get a dozen responces wishing you well and blessing your family but next to no useful information .
Others tend to push brand names and posts critical of a sponsor seem to vanish very quickly .
Some moderators allow threads to run off topic if it is not getting personal or nasty while others will shut a thread down the second it looks like straying.
These are the things that give a forum a particular character not the colours or the page format .
We all like to find some where that we feel safe and not have our beliefs challenged .
I used to host several single model motorcycle sites but over time we closed them all down as better broader sites became available although I still moderate on 4 forums .
Three of them are anchient, use soft wear so obsolete is it not funny but to my amazement get almost zero spam and suffer even fewer attempts to hack into them and of course being very old are unbelievably memory efficient .
One is even on Listserve so is text only but it has been running since the 90's

And to answer your specific question,
NO
Lawnworld is a stand alone publisher owned by one of the USA lawn trade associations .

For sites registered in the UK , EU , USA & Aust ( not sure about Canada ) the owner of the site must be listed on the home page at least along with a direct contact address .

....
True but for some members especially the older ones in age that computers are something they were dragged into out of necessity rather then grew up with the visual and how it works when it changes is a big deal. This latest software and visual format change here is only the second one. But over on MTF we have went through several. Everytime we have members that are downright up in arms over it, some have left because of it. I can't find this or that, where is the button that does..., my eyes hurt with the new colors and it gives me a headache.. the list goes on. lol Anything new in the security part with password length or forced changes etc. throws members over the edge too. But such goes life as a forum owner or volunteer admins and moderators. I've always said everyone should spend a couple years in retail & service line of work as at least their first jobs. I might even add operating or moderating a forum to that. Gives you a good perspective on Joe Public and their personalities and how they interact with others. Also provides some insight into why the world is the place it is and operates like it does. ;)

Yes .
I know where you are coming from.
Sometimes there is a good reason for a whinge like when a 20 year old with perfect eyes in a modified light environment decides to use a single pixel width font, even worse if it is black text on a white screen.
It took kidnapping one of the techs who contracted IT to a warehouse I was running and forcing him to spend an entire day in the van trying to use his new great upgrade to the PDA softwear before he finally changed the back ground colour from white to yellow, but he still would not use a bold font .
The thing most people hate is change and it does not matter weather the change is for the better or the worse , they will resist it .
I put that down to being forced to think, even for a few seconds .
Bertrand Russell nailed it with his line ." most people would rather die than be forced to think "

Having said that the RR OC (AUST ) forum has not changed since the day it went from an email list to a proper forum.
At least once a month some one complains that they want us to update so they can do things like drag & drop images or post images in some other format than a JPG .
And these are people who own ( or aspire to own ) some of the most technically advanced IT heavy cars on the planet
