I know its an old thread but it helped me. I have a Husqvarna GTH 2548 i got back in 2005 new. I just had to put a head gasket on the passenger side head. But the mower was real sluggish and didnt want to go up hills .. Just real slow and felt low power.
I read this thread and the other instructional one from the wv guy.

I drained my trans axle at the gerator cover under neath. I refilled with 20w-50. Purged it. Its now 4 x better.. but still has a weak spot going up hill if im in too high a gear. Anyway this was pretty painless and im happy and thankful for the write up.
