The Operators Manual recommended amount of oil overfilled my YTH21K46 at oil change.

I did my 25 hour oil change today. The sticker under the hood and the Husq manual read that the capacity with an oil change is 64 ounces. I changed oil and filter and poured in two quarts of oil. Well, now I am ~3/4 inch above the fill line!

I did not receive an operator or service manual for the Kohler Courage 21 HP engine that is in it. I browsed online, found one, and read that this motor capacity is 1.6 quarts! It looks like that includes filter as well.

Screenshots of each are at the end of this post.

Now tomorrow, I guess, I need to drain out a little oil to be sure I don't have too much pressure on any gaskets or seals....
Why would there be this inconsistency? Can't this cause problems? I could see it causing problems that would void Kohler's warranty.

Hello chobbs, it definitely is foolish of them! Bet it was a post engineering error with the decals. Overfilling oil won't help, but a minor amount probably would not hurt it. The Kohler Courage is a engine of known issues, so being careful is key! I only had one that actually ran! I had a Husky like yours with a Briggs engine I got for $50. They thought it was blown up, it had water in gas! ;)
