Hello all!

I have a Ryobi SS30 that was given to me and have been repairing.
One of the things I need to replace is the pull chord, but as I was trying to get to it, I came across this part that I need to remove, but cannot figure out how.

Is there a special tool I need?

Thanks in advance!

Just a guess , never worked on one , grap the whole thing and spin it and see if it comes off.

I have tried that, but it won't budge.

I tried prying a couple of flat head screw drivers under each side, but nothing...it won't move.

I am wondering if I need a special tool to pry it up, then turn it to release the springs.

After I get through this, I am home free in order to replace the cord.

Thank you folks!

I will give that a try.

I appreciate the help!

Try taking the spark plug out and running a length of rope into the cylinder. As the piston moves up, the rope will prevent it from going past top dead center and act as a piston stop for you, then you can try wrenching that piece off.
