Help with JD 180 manual transmission

2406 Views 2 Replies 2 Participants Last post by  TMR
I am having a problem with the manual transmission on my JD 180. All the forward gears are fine. When shifting into reverse it seems like the gears are not fully engaged. If you don't hold the shift lever it will pop out of gear. If I set the engine speed to low it works fine. The drive belt is fully stopped when the clutch is in so the transmission input pulley is not moving. Is there any way to adjust the shift lever to more fully engage the reverse gear or is this a problem internal to the transmission? worn reverse gear?
Any help would be appreciated

Interesting it is the reverse giving the problem. When my old Jake with a Peerless transmission started acting like that the only gear I had problems with in the beginning was second which was the gear I run in 90% of the time.

Here's a thread about it over in another forum that might be of use:

Also here's the service manual that covers the 801 series starting page 30 (PDF page 28)
