HI all. I have an older 8 hp, and an older 11 hp Briggs, that i am trying to figure out the correct way to set the governor. I was told by one person to loosen the bolt on the governor arm and hold it at full throttle, and turn the governor the same direction, but then someone else told me to hold the throttle open and set the governor the opposite direction, and a third person said to hold the throttle closed and turn the governor in the direction the arm is when the throttle is closed. I rebuilt both of these engines, and dont want to have to tear them back apart to replace the governor if i set it wrong. Thank you in advance for your help.

If the Governor is set wrong You'll most likely end up putting the rod through the side of the block.

Are these engines Horizontal or vertical shaft ?

For proper governor settings, please post the model #'s for both engines.

example: 8hp 190402, 11hp 250402
