I have a fuel leak from the tank on my Craftsman Model # 917.388731. Is it possible to replace the tank?

Looks like Sears has it in stock:

You'll want to have them verify the part number I came up with by your model and Briggs engine code numbers.

I don't know if they go into it too much or not. Compared to some models that have the carburator mounted on the tank. This model is pretty straight forward. I think it is just a matter or removing the plastic engine top cover, pulling the screws that mounts the tank to the shroud, removing the fuel line from the stub and lifting it off. Here's the exploded view:
