I have a Briggs and Stratton engine in a castle garden ride on lawnmower and I’m trying to start it but when I turn the key the flywheel spins and not the engine I have put a pencil in spark plug hole and it has turned around when I turned the the engine by hand any help?

if the piston is moving in the cylinder (which you confirmed by sticking the pencil in the pencil in the plug hole.... my guess is it's spinning and just not starting.
the only for the flywheel to spin and and the engine not move is a broken crankshaft, and you'd know it if it was.

Most engines need at least 450 RPM spinning to start.
do you think you can take a video of it and upload it to youtube?
