More info on my problem. I have aligned the belt keeper so it will fit but I found that it was in a slot on the clutch assembly which appears to me to be a problem unless the clutch assembly isn't supposed to turn when the engine is running. Can anyone tell me if the clutch is not supposed to turn? I am afraid to try to start the engine if I have the belt keeper installed incorrectly.

OK, I have solved my problem, so for the record, the belt keeper rod must fit in the one of the 2 slots on the clutch assembly. I should have recognized this as the clutch assembly can not turn or it would break the wire that activates the clutch. Duh, makes me feel a little stupid. Also for the recprd the belt keeper rod goes in the lowest hole toward the front of the tractor. I have now marked mine to avoid future confusion and I suggest anyone who removes the belt keeper do the same before removing it as the manual is of little help in this regard.

Glad to hear that you got it resolved. It definitely can take a while to figure out how to adjust belts and get everything aligned properly.

Your posts will be good future reference for others that have the same issue.
