Craftsman LT1000

I have Craftsman LT1000, reverse is getting real weak and when in froward it jumps between the low end shifts. How do you check the Hydrostatic fluid? and what do you replace the fluid with.

What is your numerical model number? (9XX.XXX) Any mention in the owners manual of the need to purge air from the hydro?
