The 60s/70s Toros with the Tecumseh engines called for Champion J-8 spark plugs. The more recent equivalent is the Champion J-8C. But, I have a 10-pack of NOS Champion UJ-8. Are they the same as the J-8 ? What's the story on the two? Was one produced before the other? ??? Thanks for any info.

UJ8 crosses to an RJ8C:

Going from memory I think the only difference with the old J-8 was a longer porcelain top like an automotive plug and no resistor where the newer replacements is a stubby version. (Edit: the CJ8 might be the stubby version, thinking the 'C' on the front stood for 'compact'. Some of the older ones did have a tip that would unthread off for attaching plug wires with eyelets instead of a clips. That might account for the difference too.)

Champion has a pretty slick sight. You can even measure your old plug and enter them in the reverse engineer section to find a replacement.
