I have a Lawson 3.5 on one of those Craftman edgers, has'nt run in a couple of years the carb. is no good on it. This is one of those that is to GOOD to be true stories.
I also have a 6 HP. B & S that broke a crank shaft due to neglect.
I have been wanting a gas powered Air Compressor. Now remember that the Lawson engine turns counter clock wise & that is the way the compressor pump needs to turn.
Well I got to hunting spare parts & just happened to think of the B&S with a broke crank shaft, The Carborator! Went to surplus room & there it was,at a glance it looked maybe to be the right size. IT fit like a Glove,
I'll probably get it started tomorrow & use it for Air to run a diaphram pump To Spray Asphalt Sealer.
I am going to try a couple of pictures.

Electric Compressor to Gas Power Engine

This is the air Compressor that I changed from Electric to Gas in the past week. The pictures show electric motor on Compressor tank.
The gas motor was on a craftman edger. I have to make a correction on motor. It is a Tecumsech not a Lauson as previously stated & it turns clockwise as does other motors, to Me it is backwards because the pull rope is on opposite side. Please accept My appology it was not meant to mess anyone up.
Now for the motor base. I turned the edger motor base over it sat right on the air tank with the same one pin that helt the electric motor. Remounted the motor to the base (now turned over), look close and You can see the One pin with a drop key in the end of it (same on other side).

Now for pressure regulator or relief valve (50psi is all that I need) I can not find one priced reasonable. So I go back to the (junk) parts room.
I have it laid out in picture as it is assembled. It is set at 50 psi max. To increase psi screw in top fitting -- To lower psi screw out top fitting.
