I'm a newbie to this forum and a mower repair. I recently replaced the blade on my Kohler 173cc self-propelled 21"lawn mower. After I put the new blade on it worked fine, but there was a lot of vibration in the handle. I went on now knowing any better and now the blade makes a clanking sound.
I looked at the blade but all seemed ok. So, what I am doing wrong and what do I need to do to fix it. Thanks in advance for your advice.

Sounds as though the blade is either hitting something or is not on straight. You should be able to see something happening when you turn the blade with the mower on it's side. Be sure to disconnect the spark plug. Will be easier to check if the plug is out, too.

Hi, First, make sure it is the correct blade. It's been my experience that there is "some Play" when bolting on a mower blade. Don't just tighten the blade when installing it, bring the bolt/s just short of snug so you can move it around on its mounting plate, find the true center that way and then tighten the rest of the way. If that doesn't work, make sure it is balanced by centering the blade on a blade balancer and adjust as need by removing some metal from the heavy side. Tip, make sure the blade is very clean of dirt and grass before trying to balance it.
1 more thing we should have asked first. Did someone hit something with this mower? why are you replacing the blade in the first place?
