I would use the new short block for safety and longevity. Some repair shops have special tools to straighten bent shafts depending on the amount of bend. You could try and find a replacement shaft and then rebuild the damaged motor in the future. Just my opinion. .
I have seen a lot of UTube videos on straightening bent crankshafts. First it kind of depends on how bad it is bent. You could try a machine shop. Look for a donor engine. I guess safety first would be the primary objective. Bill
