Verified: Keyway, compression = 90psig, oil level, primer pump squirt, spark is fine enough to electrocute me... trottle linkage.
Cleaned: carburator, fuel tank.

Yep, I'd replace the key. Also, is this a flathead or an OHV motor?

By the way, welcome to MLF.
Thanks! You guys are my last hope before I swich to Honda...

But the keyway slots are both in line and the key way is not torn or damaged viewed from top.

As for flathead or OHV... the spark plug is horizontal.. so I guess Flathead...

Thanks

When you`re a mechanical engineer, you fix you car with succes everytime, you deal with industrial machines all day at the plant... you`ve got skills for failure analysisi and you can`t fix a bloody lawnmower... this is getting very frustrating....expecially with the little voice in the back reminding you how much time you`ve spent on fixing the bloody lawnmower (yes thats my wife...)

Just got to ventilate...

Do you mean there is very little resistance when pulling the recoil rope?
If your compression reading is accurate, the valves and head gasket would appear to be ok, although to me, it sounds like a stuck valve OR a bad
head gasket.
