hey ya'll,, noobie here.. I have been battling a problem for several seasons now and I am hoping somebody out there can give me a shred of hope to remedy. "PUSH 3 TIMES TO START" has not worked for years and I have bought so many gaskets and bulbs they take up a shelf in the barn. I now have a pile of air filter bases that I have tried but failed to fix the problem. I have learned that there are a lot of knockoffs, and junk parts on the web. I have tried one, two, and even three gaskets. I have tried RTV on the air channel. I have torqued the base bolts to 10 inch lbs, 15, 20, and even tighter. I have used carb spray through the openings with the bowl removed from the carb.
I sure wish I had known that removing the filter base to clean it was a bad idea.
I have watched so many YouTube videos regarding the same issue and I have tried everything from tape, plastic, stickers, and sealants.
I don't want to lose my Salvation over this, so if by chance someone can ease my frustration with a fix... I will mention you in my will...

They are aggravating. I try to avoid taking the filter housing off the carb. If I do it usually takes me 2 or 3 try's to get it back on and priming. I put a thin layer of Permatex 2 on the gasket where the air channel is, make sure the gasket is seated in the filter base then put it on the carb. I keep extra gaskets and keep redoing it until it works. If there's an easy fix I don't know it.

thanks Cannon.... I have been trying to find the torque value for the three mounting bolts... I did locate a lil blurp in a DIY YouTube video saying torque to 3 1/2 inch pound ¿¿ it don't seem right to me. I did put thread lock on the bolts (blue not red) because I was not going to tighten them down past snug... it didn't help 😡

The correct torque value is 40-inch pounds. (3 1/2-foot pounds)

THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP!! I have a new base plate and new BS gaskets that I am going to try for the umpteenth time today... I am persuaded to get er done!! ♥

... Words, written in Red...
Leaving the nuts to lose leads to a poor seal and air leakage, to tight, leads to deforming the housing and also a poor seal.

I did in fact look at the face of the carb, actually putting a straight edge on it... paraffin on the carburetor and dragging the edge up, down, left, and right but I was not able to see any low areas... I purchased 5 gaskets and I intend to get this BS running like it did when I bought it... I really hesitate to apply RTV to the carburetor after the battle of removing it from the base plate of other attempts..
Thanks for your help 🐴 horsehockey... I really do appreciate your input...

WHAT ARE THE CHANCES ¿,¿
I mean what would be the odds.

I have been fighting this issue for so long but I am persuaded I have discovered the answer....
how is it possible that the air channel feeding through the carb could become clogged ¿,¿ how could this happen? is it even possible? God works in mysterious ways I have been told all my 80 years.... but while I was looking at the many many filter bases I have purchased, I jus happened to press the primer bulb and I heard air noise... so I put my thumb over the hole that would normally push air into the bowl and I noticed that the bulb would not spring back until I let up the pressure with my thumb.... hummm,,, now I have to admit that I was not the first in line for brain function... kinda closer to Biden than Elon Musk... BUT... I figger if this can hold pressure then it ain't leaking... OK, so where is the air going?? I took a top E string from my guitar and cut it off.. I tried for hours to make that string go into the air channel and try as I did.. it would not go... I hobbled over to my air compressor and fired it up and then looked through the stock of cleaners and stuff to find a carb cleaner or brake spray and found what I needed.... Gumout carb spray.... I sprayed a small amount into the hole in the carb face and then pushed the E string into the hole... then blew 140 psi in the hole,,, and I did this for almost 2 hours... and I am persuaded this was the problem all along ... no where in all the research I have done is it mentioned this as a solution....
how in the dickens could anything get in there to block the air flow?
through the small hole in the bulb.. whadda think?? any ideas??
BTW,,,, I did remove the bulb jus to be sure the screen was still in tact and it was... so now I have a question... for anyone younger than me... might it be a good idea to introduce a small thin foam filter in front of the screen to stop introduction of contaminants??
I welcome your comments... I am not embarrassed by my ignorance, but I am AMAZED at His Grace!!
