Topher and Brad,
I have seen this before on hydrostatic transaxles. On older units like yours, the fluid just seems to get burnt, dirty, or for whatever reason just doesn't drive the mower like it should. This usually shows after a short period of operation. New fluid (20w50 I think) will most likely fix your problem. Now here is the bad news, most of these transaxles do not have a drain plug. They have only a fill plug at the top.The only way to drain is to pull the transaxle and turn it upside down. My suggestion is to crawl under the mower and locate the transaxle model number. Then do some research with the manufacture (most likely Peerless). Give them a call and see what they say. Taking our the rear axle and putting it back isn't for everyone. My first call would be to the seller. He most likely knew this mower had this problem! Good luck.
